Minnesota Wire and Cable Co. Receives 2008 Paragon Economic Impact Award
Eau Claire, WI, 02/11/08 – Minnesota Wire and Cable Co. (MWCC) was recognized on Monday at the Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corporation’s Annual Luncheon as the winner of the 2008 Paragon Economic Impact Award.
The Paragon Award is given to a local business that demonstrates excellence and positive economic impact in the Eau Claire area. Evaluation criteria include: impact through job creation and opportunities; facility or equipment investment; commitment to the continued education and training of their workforce; support or involvement in economic development activities within the community; and innovations in the development of new technologies and products.
MWCC created 39 jobs in 2007; their Eau Claire facility employs approximately 117 people, with plans to add additional personnel to support its booming defense division, Minnesota Defense. MWCC has also completed expanding into a 58,000 square foot facility that will provide additional opportunities for employment and growth.
"We are proud of being a strong part of the Eau Claire community, and what it has done for businesses and the quality of life for those who live and work here,” said Paul Wagner, Chairman and CEO of Minnesota Wire and Cable Co. “There are so many exciting things going on, including our move to a new facility, and leading-edge technology collaborations with the NanoRite Center, right next door.”
MWCC has invested heavily in new technologies within the last three years, with patents pending and approximately $5 million dedicated to research and development. This includes four Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs, one Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), and the installation of an EMC (Electromagnetic Capabilities) Chamber.
"The Paragon Economic Impact Award reflects our ideals about building a meaningful business while giving back to the community, and to those who have secured our freedom," said Wagner. "Minnesota Wire has always strived to be a real family of employees that is 'fast, friendly and flexible,' despite the pressures of change that always comes with growth. We hope to live up to this honor for many years to come!"
