Scouting/BSA recently recognized Minnesota Wire and Cable
Company Executive Vice President and CFO, and Inver Grove
Heights resident Joan Thompson, for her career excellence
and community service. Thompson, one of eight recipients,
was honored at the 22nd Annual Spurgeon Awards Luncheon.
The event, named in memory of William Spurgeon III, Founder
of Scouting's contemporary Exploring program, was hosted
by Dain Rauscher, and emceed by KSTP-TV's Julie Nelson.
It was held at the Prom Center in Woodbury.
As
part of her service to youth, Thompson established a partnership
with the St. Paul Public Schools, providing work site experiences
and employment opportunities where employees of Minnesota
Wire and Cable serve as mentors in a broad range of career
specialties. Through this relationship, students are exposed
to opportunities and learn about workplace values, ethics
and skills that will help them become successful employees
and citizens.
Thompson
is also a member of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce
Executive Committee, Board Member of Twin Cities RISE!,
and Minnesota Med-Equip. She has provided leadership and
guidance in the Prepare St. Paul Council, the St. Paul Chamber's
partnership with St. Paul Public Schools and Partners in
Quality Learning, and as a Board Member of the City of St.
Paul Workforce Development Council. |
